Building capability for social change.
SVYM's capacity-building and innovation platform helps people and institutions strengthen the knowledge, skills, values and confidence needed to contribute meaningfully to development.
Objective
To build human and social capital through capacity building, experiential learning, institutional development and programme innovation, enabling individuals and institutions to contribute to inclusive and sustainable development.
Where learning is connected to real development practice
V-LEAD was established in 2002 to strengthen the potential of individuals and institutions working for social development.
It draws upon SVYM's grassroots experience across Health, Education and Socio-economic Empowerment and converts that experience into learning opportunities for youth, educators, civil-society organisations, Government functionaries and institutions.
From leadership and employability to institutional development, fellowships, faculty training, programme management and field immersion, V-LEAD combines structured learning with the realities of social change.

V-LEAD began as an innovation and capacity-building space within SVYM — a place where ideas could be tested, skills strengthened and leadership encouraged. Its early programmes combined development practice with management and leadership learning.
V-LEAD established in Mysuru with a focus on building human and social capital for the development sector.
Management Development Programmes for Government engineers, social-sector project-management training and development/leadership webinar series demonstrated V-LEAD's ability to adapt learning during the pandemic.
Civil-service immersion, social entrepreneurship programmes and project-management workshops broadened the mix of classroom and field-based learning.
Kshamatha Kendra expanded large-scale capacity building for HIV-service providers, while V-LEAD contributed technical knowledge on WASH and climate-resilient institutions.
Fellowships, youth leadership, TISIT and customised programmes strengthened the emphasis on service-minded professionals and institutional learning.
GenNext–Kausalyan, Faculty Development Programmes, Kshamatha Kendra, new customised training modules and Mysuru Samvada reflected V-LEAD's expanding role as a learning platform.
Knowledge. Practice. Purpose.
V-LEAD's learning model brings together professional capability, exposure to real development contexts and a larger sense of social responsibility.
Build competence
Contemporary tools, professional skills, management practices and domain knowledge strengthen the ability to perform and lead.
Learn in context
Field visits, internships, block placements and exposure to SVYM programmes connect concepts with communities and institutions.
Connect capability to purpose
Reflection, citizenship and service help learners consider how professional growth can contribute to wider social value.
Capacity building across audiences
V-LEAD works at different scales — from intensive youth programmes to faculty development and large institutional capacity-building initiatives.
Different learning needs. One platform for capability.
Preparing young people for work and responsibility
Programmes such as GenNext–Kausalyan combine employability skills, career readiness, industry exposure and placement support to strengthen young people's transition into the workplace.
Learning through sustained engagement
Fellowships and youth programmes create deeper opportunities for reflection, field exposure and contribution. Earlier initiatives such as SEED, Viveka Fellowship and TISIT illustrate V-LEAD's use of immersive learning to nurture service-minded professionals.
Strengthening those who shape learning
Customised Faculty Development Programmes focus on learner-centred and value-based education, while additional modules respond to institutional needs in teaching, management and professional development.
Building stronger social-sector institutions
Programme management, office management, Training of Trainers, emerging workplace tools and customised workshops help development organisations strengthen systems, teams and implementation capability.
Capacity building at scale
V-LEAD serves as one of the Kshamatha Kendras established to strengthen HIV-prevention service providers, building the capabilities of outreach workers, peer educators, programme managers and monitoring & evaluation staff through structured training.
Creating spaces for ideas to meet practice
Platforms such as Mysuru Samvada, youth dialogues, workshops and public conversations bring practitioners, educators and thought leaders together around emerging questions in education, leadership and development.
Learning designed around real institutional needs
V-LEAD works with Government, civil-society organisations, corporates and academia to design programmes around specific capability gaps rather than relying only on fixed training products.
From classroom learning to field understanding
V-LEAD has worked with public systems through management development, civil-service immersion, sector-specific capacity building and technical support — including programmes linked to water resources, WASH, health and education.
Strengthening programme and organisational capability
Capacity-building programmes support NGO teams with practical tools in programme management, monitoring, training, organisational systems and service delivery.
Connecting learning with workplace realities
Industry participation can enrich employability programmes through mentoring, classroom engagement, workplace exposure and placement pathways, as seen in GenNext–Kausalyan.
Learning beyond the campus
Electives, internships, field exposure and customised programmes help students and faculty connect academic knowledge with real social-development contexts.
Step into the field. Learn by contributing.
Internships and volunteering offer Indian students and professionals an opportunity to engage with SVYM's programmes, institutions and communities while learning from development practice.
A space for learning, dialogue and collaboration
The V-LEAD Centre in Mysuru anchors SVYM's Training & Research work and hosts programmes, workshops, dialogues, academic engagements and institutional learning activities.
